La Cañada Observatory, is an initiative by Juan Lacruz, the main activity is to followup near earth objects NEOs and comets, the observatory started operations in the summer of 2002 registered as station J87 in the Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union.

Since March 2022 the observatory joined the international asteroid warning network IAWN which is endorsed by the united nations office for outer space affairs UNOOSA for an international response to a potential NEO impact threat.
